Hair transplant – solution to thinning hair for women

Baldness is a common problem these days and a large number of men consider hair transplant as a solution, the percentage of such men is nearly 90 percent. But these days, women are also moving towards hair transplant. Though there is very less percentage of women who need to undergo hair transplant but female hair transplant is no doubt considered the most effective and method for this purpose.
People consider dandruff, poor diet, deficiency of supplements, medications, ailments, pregnancy and what not as the cause of baldness or loss of hair. Though all these factors do matter but the real major causes behind this situation are heredity and hormones.

Before opting out for the procedure, you must know whether you are good candidate for the procedure or not. All the women suffering from hair loss might not be the candidate of hair transplant. Individual assessment of women is necessary prior to treatment to confirm the candidacy for the procedure but generally women who face any of below given conditions can be a good candidate for hair transplant.
·         Women who are suffering from non-hormonal traction alopecia (a condition in which one suffers from bald spots on various areas of scalp).
·         Women who have undergone some cosmetic or plastic surgery and want a solution to lost hair at the incision sites.
·         Women who suffer from various baldness patterns as that in males (male pattern baldness). Baldness may include recession of hairline, thinning of hair at the top of scalp.
·         Women who suffered from baldness due to burn, scar as a result of accident or trauma.
Female hair transplant can be done using two techniques – Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). Though both of the techniques are helpful but FUE is the most advanced one and is preferred. Here you will come to know about both the techniques.
In both of the treatments hair follicles are taken from site having denser hair – donor site – and are relocated at the site having baldness – recipient site. Both the techniques are performed under local anesthesia and sometimes with sedation. FUT is an invasive procedure while FUE is non-invasive. The difference is there only in the method of taking hair from donor site.
In FUT hair transplant, a strip of hair grafts are taken from donor site and them are separated under stereo microscope before implanting them in recipient site. This technique leaves linear scar behind but as mostly grafts are taken from back of scalp or area having denser hair, the scar hides. FUT technique for hair transplant yields more hair as compared to FUE.
In FUE hair transplant, separate follicular units are taken and are implanted in bald area that does not cause any scar. For extracting follicular units small sized punch – having diameter of 1 mm – is used. This technique requires less time for recovery.
